Gromnica, from the Polish word for Thunderbolt, is a ritual candle believed to be the symbolic embodiment of the female deity Dziewanna. This deity aimed to help people survive in the wilderness and is the symbol of the divine Mother and Maiden.

In Slavic folklore, Verbascum, the plant used as the core of the Gromnica candle, symbolizes the victory of the spirit over the body and the triumph of life over death.

Verbascum also offers many healing energies. It can be used for dreamwork, spiritual connection, and protection. It is ruled by Saturn, associated with the element of fire, and has strong connections to the moon.

The story about Gromnica comes from Slavic mythology and the culture of Poland. It represents the universal human fear of the brutality of nature. Gromnica are thought to protect people from thunderstorms and wolves. In mythology, there weren't many things people dreaded more than wild animals and weather. Therefore these candles were used as a magical tool that offered ease in the middle of freezing winters.

During the dark winter days, Gromnica offered light, warmth, and hope that Spring was coming.
